Pampanga, Philippines: A Cousin Reunion Extravaganza (and a Dose of Mom's Superpower)

Jan 28, 2024

Just when I thought my stomach couldn't handle another bite (spoiler alert: it always can), I ventured to Pampanga for a family reunion of epic proportions. Picture this: 15 cousins, enough laughter to rival a sitcom laugh track, and enough food to feed a small village (seriously, Filipinos don't mess around with feasts). It was like a chaotic, delicious Hallmark movie come to life, and I wouldn't have traded it for the world.

Yes, I have a very big family

But amidst the buffets and Ferreros, I witnessed something truly heartwarming. My mom, ever the philanthropist queen, showed me the local high school gym and stage she helped build through her charity project. Let me tell you, seeing the pride in her eyes, and i'm sure the joy on the students' faces, was enough to melt even the most cynical heart (and trust me, after all those buffets, I was bordering on cynical). It's moments like these that remind me why my parents are the real MVPs, proving that kindness and generosity are the ultimate superpowers.

So, Pampanga wasn't just about stuffing my face (although, let's be honest, that was a major perk). It was a reminder of the importance of family, the power of giving back, and the fact that sometimes, the best things in life aren't found on a menu (although, Filipino food definitely comes close).

Guess who got photoshopped in

P.S. To my 15+ amazing cousins: Thanks for the memories, the laughs, and the endless buffet of Gelato and Korean food. I'll be back soon, armed with an even bigger appetite and a thirst for karaoke battles this time around!
