Glamping with the Fam: Cape Cod Mishaps and Lobster Rolls

May 12, 2024

Let's be honest, traditional camping is for, well, campers. You know the type: enjoys the thrill of wrestling with a pop-up tent, considers a lukewarm shower a luxury, and finds entertainment in arguing over who gets the last spoonful of burnt beans. Not me. This Mother's Day weekend, I was all about glamping in Cape Cod, and let me tell you, it was glorious.

The Knob: Birds, Beaches, and One Confused Labradoodle

Our adventure began with a trip to The Knob in Falmouth. Now, pictures don't do this place justice. It's a gorgeous hike with stunning beach views, perfect for a family outing (minus Beamer, the labradoodle, who spent most of the time marking his territory by peeing everywhere and wondering why the ocean wasn't a giant water bowl). The highlight, however, was the bird sanctuary. Enzo, my ever-enthusiastic 12-year-old, became a temporary bird whisperer, attempting to converse with a particularly judgmental-looking seagull. Let's just say, his avian charm school needs some work.

Seafood Sam's: Because Lobster Makes Everything Better

After all that fresh air, our stomachs were grumbling louder than Beamer after a particularly gassy lunch (note to self:ration the kibble). Luckily, Seafood Sam's came to the rescue. This place is a haven for seafood lovers, with a dog-friendly patio that could seat the entire cast of 101 Dalmatians (and their humans). I dove headfirst into a mountain of lobster and fries (because, hello, Mother's Day!), while Logan opted for the classic warm buttered lobster roll. Enzo, bless his heart, stuck to the kiddie menu with a side of "I'm-not-sharing-these-delicious-clam-strips" glares.

AutoCamp Cape Cod: Where Airstreams Meet Luxury

Finally, at 4 pm, we arrived at our home for the weekend: AutoCamp Cape Cod. Forget sleeping bags and lumpy pillows – this was glamping with a capital "G". Our accommodation? A swanky, retrofitted Airstream that looked straight out of a design magazine. The campsite itself was a cluster of these modern marvels, nestled amongst the trees with a peek-a-boo view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Airstream: Basically a Fancy Hotel on Wheels

Now, this is what I'm talking about! The Airstream was cozy yet surprisingly roomy, stocked with everything we needed – plates, utensils, even a mini-fridge and microwave (s'mores, anyone?). The bathroom was a sparkling oasis, complete with toiletries and a shower that wouldn't make me claustrophobic. Let's just say, this momma was thrilled to avoid the communal bathroom situation you find at traditional campgrounds. Brushing my teeth in peace? Priceless.

Campfire Chaos and Family Fun
Our evenings were spent playing the Filipino card game Tong Its (Enzo lost spectacularly, as usual), roasting marshmallows for the perfect s'mores, and watching the fireflies put on a dazzling light show. We even managed to cook popcorn over the fire, which resulted in a minor explosion of burnt kernels and singed eyebrows (don't judge, it happens to the best of us).

Honestly, this was the best Mother's Day weekend I could have asked for. Relaxation, laughter, and good food. If you're looking for a Cape Cod adventure that's minus the hassle and plus the comfort, then glamping at AutoCamp is the way to go.
