Birthday Bubbly Bliss: A Champagne Adventure in France!

Jul 06, 2024

Let's be honest, folks. My birthday wish list gets a little dusty. But this year, I finally dusted it off, grabbed my metaphorical (and very real) glass of champagne, and jetted off to the land of bubbly bliss – Champagne, France!

My digs? Domaine De Barive, a French countryside chateau so fancy it probably has a moat full of Evian. Picture waking up in a fairytale castle, surrounded by vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see (which, admittedly, wasn't that far after a few glasses of champagne the night before).

The next four days were a delightful blur of charming towns (Reims and Epernay, for those keeping score), questionable French accents (mostly mine), and enough champagne tours to make even a Kardashian feel a little woozy. We popped corks at Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, Ruinart, Taittinger, and Moët & Chandon, each experience more luxurious (and slightly more confusing) than the last. Pro tip: don't attempt to pronounce "Rosé Brut" after your third flute.

But the real win of the trip was L'Extra, a Michelin-recommended restaurant with a heart of gold. The staff here has mental disabilities, and let me tell you, their passion and service were the best bubbly pairing I've ever had. Plus, the food was amazing (unlike my attempt at ordering escargot in broken French).

Speaking of amazing, my birthday dinner at Chateau de Sacy was a sight to behold. Think rolling vineyards bathed in the golden glow of sunset, a view so beautiful it practically photoshopped itself. The food was incredible, the company even better (except for maybe the guy who kept snoring next to me – sorry, Pierre!), and the memories made were priceless (unlike the bill – whew!).

This trip to Champagne wasn't just about the bubbles (although, let's be real, it was mostly about the bubbles). It was about experiencing French charm, supporting a good cause, and maybe learning a thing or two about responsible champagne consumption (emphasis on the maybe). So, if you're looking for a luxurious escape with a dash of hilarity and a side of questionable language skills, then look no further than Champagne, France! Now, where did I put that leftover bottle...?
